Unopened originally sealed products are best before the indicated date of expiration. At home, all products should be stored in a cool place away from direct sunlight. If the jar has already been opened, it´s important to keep it in the refrigerator and to finish it as soon as possible.
Products from Staud´s are basically created without chemical preservatives. Especially fruit preserves and spreads with high fruit content and low overall sugar content tend to ferment and develop mold more quickly than products made with lots of sugar. The more natural a product is, the shorter - unfortunately - is its life expectation. The good news is that they are healthier.
Important: The jar should be closed properly with the original lid after you enjoy it the first time. Then please put it in the fridge and savor it completely as soon as you can - at the best, within a few days. Generally, you should always use a clean spoon!
If jam jars are stored in a horizontal position, it is possible for syneresis to occur in which fluid and solid ingredients separate. The jam is still suitable for comsumption and only needs to be stirred. This phenomenon of syneresis is also familiar in the example of a mustard tube not opened for a longer period of time.
Yes - fruit in alcohol and preserves or plum butter (Powidl) with high sugar content, as well as pickled vegetables and salads, keep better for a longer time. Alcohol, sugar and vinegar are natural conservation agents.
Sometimes slight damage to the lid, which is not visible, happens during transport. Then the protective vacuum is lost due to air penetration in the jar. This results in either a slow fermentation or in the development of light mold on the surface. These transport damages take place outside Staud´s facilities and, despite our strictest quality control standards, cannot be avoided. In this case, complaints should be directed to the store where the product was bought.
No, Staud´s products are lactose-free.
No, Staud´s products are gluten-free.
The preparation of Staud´s preserves is especially gentle: The fruit is heated in a vacuum vat (low pressure) to a maximum of 70° celsius. So vitamins, natural color and also the full fruit aroma are optimally retained.
At Staud´s, fruit like apricots, cherries or plums are washed, pitted and sorted out by hand on a conveyer belt. Then a strict visual control of the divided fruit follows to remove any pits or pieces of them. If it should nevertheless happen, that a fruit pit mistakenly finds its way into your jam, then we ask you to please excuse this human error. Once the fruits are in the vat, their further journey is steered automatically. So any pieces of apricot pit or cherry stones wouldn´t be found with 100% certainty (at least not yet!) by technical assisting appliances, similar to metal detectors.
Staud´s syrups are especially highly concentrated. In Staud´s citrus syrups, certain, very fine pieces of fruit pulp are left on purpose to create an especially full, fruity taste. So please shake the bottle well before using. When you mix the syrup with fresh water, these fruit pieces will be evenly distributed and won´t fall to the bottom of the glass.
Staud´s Vienna places a very high value on the highest possible quality and safety. If an originally sealed jar isn´t alright, then please direct complaints to the store where you acquired the product. Please bring the jar with the original lid to support product traceability - and the sales invoice, if possible - back to the store. Valid reclamations will be exchanged - no problem! In the quite unlikely case that you might have difficulties with a retailer, then please send an E-Mail to Staud´s Vienna, so the matter can be clarified.
The total sugar content is comprised of two things: First, there is the amount of the added sweetening ingredient (apple juice concentrate, sugar ...). Second, the natural sugars in the fruit used expressed as dry substance, which must be stated as such on the label. This is why the total amount added together is more than 100%. Basically, both amounts - fruit content and total sugar content - should be understood as independent elements, by which each is expressed per 100 g.
